Method for Error Reduction and Move Selection

Respond to threats
What is attacked? (If there is a threat, process candidates moves.* )
What might be the planned attack?

Seek own threats
Are there any captures already present? (If there is, process candidate moves.* )
Are there any checks or direct attacks?
Are there any unprotected pieces? (If so, how might I exploit them? * )
Are there any threats or patterns that can be prepared?

Improve position
Are there any positional aspects (imbalances) to consider?
p material balance
p the initiative (controlling the game or making threats);
p pawn structure (doubled, isolated, passed, etc.)
p space (control of more territory in a sector)
p lead in development (a time advantage)
p play on files, diagonals, and key squares
p superior pieces, especially knights versus bishops
Are there any weak points that may need defense?
Are there any pieces that can be made more effective?

* Process candidate moves:

(1) Select candidate moves (generally three or more) to review
(2) Evaluate the selected moves
(3) Choose a move to make
